Besides writing Karolan , I have also composed a number of short stories and poems. I hope these will be interesting and intriguing to many. I try to explore profound human questions with my writing, and create compelling and widely-varied scenes and setting. These short stories are very different from Karolan : I'm not interested in writing the same thing twice!

Writing is a very individual pursuit, and young writers often get a bewildering array of contradictory advice. Every reader has a slightly different perspective -- but for this very reason, we need writers who will produce their own unique stories and not be discouraged. I've tried to give some advice of my own, hopefully more encouraging and less confusing than average.

I am a professional astronomer with a B.S. in astronomy from Caltech and an astronomy Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. I taught at Swarthmore College. for two years, before leaving academia temporarily to publish and market Karolan . I'm very interested in explaining the beauty and intricacy of the Universe (which I believe reflects the artistry of a personal Creator God) to students and the general public . I also like doing professional astronomy research with various large telescopes .

Finally, I'm a dreamer and an inventor. When I was a child, I came up with so many preposterous ideas that I got in the habit of expecting that anything I thought up was guaranteed not to work. Now that I'm a PhD scientist, some of my ideas have worked very well, to my astonishment. I guess I learned something in my 22 years of formal education! More seriously, God has really blessed some of my dreams and ideas, but I have way too many to try them all myself -- or even to explore all of them to find if they're worth trying. You can find some of them here , complete with any feasibility analysis I've come up with so far. Try them at your own risk, and give me credit at your own discretion, but only if the outcome isn't a disaster!
