Moonrise at Kitt Peak National Observatory, February 21, 2014.

The night was partly cloudy, but we were still getting useful science data, as this beautiful orange moon rose over the eastward mountains at about midnight. I took the picture from the catwalk of the old 2.1m telescope, which unfortunately is about to be shut down for lack of funding.



Technical Details:

Taken using Nikon D3200 camera with 70-300mm zoom lens at 300mm. Cropped and re-pixelated from the full frame. This picture accurately represents the visual appearance of the scene as viewed through binoculars.
